Research questions:

  • How do current customers refer to certain screens or objects within a new app feature?

  • Do customers understand certain actions or transitions within a new app feature?

Method:

  • Developed a survey in for the UX writing team and sent to 4,700 customers enrolled in a private beta program.

  • The survey presented screenshots of new features and asked participants what they would name certain objects or screens in their own words. We then presented those same screens and asked participants to choose a name from a predetermined list.

When reviewing the results, the quantitative results were analyzed and presented graphically. The qualitative results were categorized, analyzed and compared to the quantitative results. Finally, these findings were presented to project teams with recommendations.

Impact:

The outputs of this survey were used by the UX writing team as well as marketing teams to choose names for new features within the Sonos app.
