Alexa on Sonos Geo Expansion

Research questions:

  • How do Sonos customer perceive the limited feature set of Alexa Voice Assistant in new countries?

  • Does the Alexa Voice Assistant setup process function as intended in the new countries?

Challenges:

  • Multiple teams of collaborators across both companies needed to be coordinated.

  • Testers needed to be physically located in newly supported countries.

  • New countries did not support any voice assistants on Sonos, so very few testers already had voice-capable products.

Method:

  • Recruited testers in target countries with the incentive of a voice-capable product as the incentive for their participation.

  • Employed both surveys and targeted tasks to guide testers through the in-app flows and gather quantitative and qualitative feedback.

Impact:

  • Sonos was able to launch Alexa support to 26 new countries with confidence.
